Overview
A fire alarm system detects fire early (smoke, heat or flame), lets people raise the alarm manually, and warns occupants so they can evacuate. It is the backbone of life safety and is governed by NFPA 72 and, in EN-aligned markets, the EN 54 product series.
Panel types
- Conventional — shows which zone is in alarm; cost-effective for small, simple buildings
- Addressable — every device has a unique address so the panel pinpoints the exact location; standard for medium, large and high-rise buildings
Detectors & devices
- Photoelectric (optical) smoke — the general-purpose default; best for smouldering fires
- Heat / thermal — for kitchens, plant rooms and dusty/steamy areas where smoke detectors false-alarm
- Multi-sensor — combines optical + heat for reliability and fewer nuisance alarms
- Beam & aspirating (VESDA) — for atria, warehouses and data centres / very-early warning
- Manual call points, sounders, strobes and voice evacuation

Standards
Designed to NFPA 72 / EN 54; equipment carries UL/FM or EN 54 listing and is approved and maintained through UAE Civil Defence.
